Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

Overview

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a symmetric-key algorithm approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to encrypt sensitive electronic data. It is used as an industry standard for protecting financial transactions, wireless communications, and data storage.

The AES encryption algorithm operates in three different key modes 128, 192, and 256-bits. Each key mode offers an additional level of security with 256-bits being the most secure. AES encrypts data in 128-bit data blocks and is often combined in an encryption mode such as CBC, CFB, CTR, or OFB to encrypt large amounts of data. In addition to encryption, AES is also used in a number of cryptographic protocols for message authentication codes and authenticated encryption.

(< 1.5 Gbps). Being our smallest AES IP Core it is designed for applications that have limited resources and low power requirements.

The Fast IP Core provides a balance between high throughput and size. With only 11 clock cycles per encryption (128-bit key) it offers the lowest latency out of all our cores. With data rates up to 5 Gbps this core is ideal for applications that need high throughputs without a sacrifice in resources.

AES Ultra Fast Cores

The Ultra Fast IP Core provides the ultimate in performance. Using our intelligent pipe management architecture we are able to achieve data rates ranging from 5 Gbps all the way up to 50 Gbps. The Ultra Fast Core can be scaled in size and speed depending on the resource and throughput requirements. This provides an ideal solution for applications that can’t afford a fully unrolled pipeline but still need ultra fast throughputs.
